Human biocomputer

Inspired by transhumanism, Katherine Hayles book “How we became posthuman” and the LSD- induced explorations of the mind by John C Lilly, I wanted to create an experience depicting the inevitable fusion of human and machine. The Human biocomputer is a term coined by Lilly in 1968 to describe the “hardware” of human anatomy and consists of several levels spanning from external reality to body to brain and beyond. While looking at other experiments from the same era I started to imagine what it would be like if someone were to explore the last and undefined levels.

The installation was exhibited on the 18th of January 2014 in Malmö, Sweden. The animations were made using the Trapcode Mir plugin for Adobe After Effects and showed on an old 14 inch tv-screen. One at a time the audience could enter a dark room where they were required to put on headphones and initiate the film sequence by pressing a certain keyboard command instructed via the headphones.
